Shop Boy's Journey of Culinary Expansion: Chicken Pie

Anyone who knows me, know that I am a massive fan of baked goods. Sweet or savoury, I really don’t mind either way.

My favourite baked good would quite easily be the humble meat pie. Call me what you will, but to me, nothing beats a good old meat pie.

As much as I love pies, I have never been brave enough to attempt one at home. Each recipe is vastly different and after meandering through 20-odd cookbooks you begin to question the very foundations of what a meat pie really is and end up in the frozen food section of Woolies buy a 6 pack of pies.

While I am still searching for the perfect classic meat pie recipe, I have been lucky enough to find a Chicken Pie recipe that warmed my soul…which is appropriate as it is now winter, so I decided that it was time to give it a try.

The recipe comes from Jamie Oliver’s latest cookbook, Jamie’s 30-Minute Meals and appeared to be a deliciously simple potpie that could cure all of the world’s maladies.

I’m 72 percent sure, that it did. I’m 100 percent sure that it was beautiful.

This is quite possibly the easiest meal I have cooked; you simply prepare the ingredients and chuck them in a pan and cook, before putting it in a dish and covering the mixture with pastry.

It’s insanely basic, and in keeping with the book’s title, you have a deliciously hearty chicken pie, in less than 30 minutes.

The best part is that it is quicker then cooking a frozen pie.
