A friend of mine first got me on to Band of Horses a few
years back (and they were played on The O.C.).
They were playing the festival circuit, and being as it was
at the prime of festival ambience, I was still attending music festivals. (They
have all sold out and attract the wrong types of people now…but that is a rant
for another time).
Band of Horses were playing at a few of the festivals we
were attending and one of my friends told me they were awesome and that we had
to go see them. Being that there were no clashes on the timetables, I agreed.
Their music has a relaxed, haunting sound that avoids
becoming too melancholic like so many indie rockers sadly do.
Infinite Arms, their 2010 album, is killer. While I’m
probably ignoring the tone and message of the lyrics, it has that laid back
feel that reminds me of being at home near the beach. It is perfectly
structured to take you on a 45-minute journey of calm happiness.
To me Compliments and On My Way Back Home are the best songs
but I think that has more to do with how lost in them I got rather than them
being better than the others.
Infinite Arms is 11 tracks of pure goodness and I give it 3
and a half stars and a large bowl of chilli fries on the pier of The O.C.
