Customer Service Complaints: Flashing Your Cash

I’ve already complained about people that throw things on a counter that they wish to purchase.

It is an action that is filled with such attitude, is rude and I well, I just don’t like it.

There is one thing that pisses me off more than that however and it is the customers who insist upon throwing cash on the counter.

It is weird and idiotic.

I have decided that there are three possible messages that customers can be attempting to get across by these actions. Each possible message makes me angry.

The first message customers are trying to send is that working in retail makes you a worthless person. These customers are the kind of people who think they are better than others and that they are surrounded by trash. By throwing cash on the counter in front of us it is their way of maintaining their power and superior position, as we have to scrounge around on the counter beneath them, to get the money we require.

The second possible message customers are sending out is that they are angry at your service not meeting their standards and expectations. I find that customers are more inclined to throw money at the counter when they ask why something isn’t reduced and you explain to them that you don’t know for sure as you don’t work for underwear. They decide that you are being rude, rather than explaining to them that you have no control over the pricing of their purchase, and take their rage out on defenceless money.

The final message is that they are extremely wealthy and can literally throw money about. I find that customers who pay cash for items over $500 are more likely to throw the cash down on the counter rather than handing it to you. What the hell? Am I meant to be impressed? This generally has an adverse effect on the message they are trying to get across as I assume it is drug money they are trying to dispose of quickly rather than them just being able to afford to throw cash around.

Like most of my rants I will leave you with a simple request. If you are paying with cash do not throw it on the counter, hand it to me. You look like a douche if you don’t.
