…why I don’t need an explanation of how to process a sale
With new technology, comes new ways for paying for goods.
With new ways of paying for goods, come new techniques for processing sales.
My current pet peeve is with customers who think that they know how to process sales and use the EFTPOS machines. Hot tip…as I work in retail everyday, I know how to process a fucking sale.
The introduction of Credit Cards with chips has created nothing short of a nightmare for me. You see, at my store (there is no other store), we have to first swipe the card, select the account and then insert and remove the card into the chip reader before the customer can enter their pin.
The customers believe that all EFTPOS machines are the same and that I, as a sale assistant, don’t know what I am doing and each day I have to deal with customers who tell me that I am doing it the wrong way.
When I go to swipe their card I am told, “It has chip…you insert it.”
Well at this store, buddy, you don’t; it pisses me off.
Recently, I have taken to dealing with this issue by going with them.
“You have to insert the chip.”
“Oh really, sorry! Give it a try.”
Nothing happens.
“It isn’t working your way? Let’s try swiping it like the machine is telling us.”
“Oh, ok.”
“Look at that, it worked. I know what I am doing…turns out using these machines every day has taught me how to correctly use them.”
I then insert and remove the chip and finish off the sale.
Please, next time you go shopping don’t tell the sales assistant how to use the machines. They use them every day; you do not.
