My greatest fear is not having a successful journalism career. Well actually, birds are my greatest fear (I’ll explain another time), but failing to have a fulfilling career is an extremely close second. When sitting on the train I often think about other potential careers if my fears are realised, this is where I will share them and my other hair-brained schemes if journalism should fail me.
I believe I would make an awesome PA to Cate Blanchett.
You see I have an insanely large crush on Cate, she is probably only second to Nigella Lawson…oh how I love her. Anyway, I believe an admiration for your boss is essential to being a successful PA. I mean, I would be so desperate to not disappoint her that I would be working a million times harder meaning I would be an ideal candidate.
Each year I get season tickets to the theatre, which I like to believe, makes me a cultured, patron of the arts meaning I have a common interest with Ms. Blanchett. As an artistic director of the country’s premier theatre company, I believe she would require someone with a keen interest in theatre and the arts. That is I.
Controversially, as I am male, I use SK-II…Cate is the spokes model for SK-II. Match…made…in…heaven. I can help Cate with her duties and have a pre-existing understanding of the brand she represents…very convenient, as it’s less training I would require.
My favourite play is Hedda Gabler (Henrik Ibsen is a genius)…Cate’s husband Andrew Upton has done an adaptation of the play…and Cate has played the title character. Some would say this is coincidental; I would call it fate. A mutual love of Ibsen, in my opinion, is necessary for a successful bond between superstar and assistant.
Most importantly, I have proved that I am willing to go above and beyond to serve Cate. During the Sydney Theatre Company run of A Streetcar Named Desire, I flew to Sydney for a night to see her perform live. It was an experience that I will never forget…and I would do it again in a heartbeat if Cate requires me to watch her perform in my duties as PA.
To conclude, if you know Cate Blanchett let her know that if she needs a PA I would make an excellent one.
Oh, I’m also really organised and have a highly professional phone manner…that might help too.
