Bargain Bin Bonanza: Innerspeaker by Tame Impala

My choice of what to buy this week whilst perusing the bargains was very simple. Last Friday night I went to see some friends’ band at The Globe in Brisbane. It is one of my favourite venues as it is home to some seedy couches and cheap beer…and it is situated in the heart of the seedy part of The Valley.

Anyway, at their gig (their band is Buick Six and they are amazing…check them out on iTunes) a few of our friends were noting how their sound had matured and developed; the general consensus being that they sounded a little bit like Tame Impala. It was at this point I realised that I had never bought their debut album Innerspeaker.

Thankfully when I was in JB the next day I noticed it had a hot little discount sticker on it. Luck was on my side; it was $9.99!!

From the opening chords of It Is Not Meant To Be I was hooked. The rolling guitar was like the start of a hypnotic trip, drawing you in for the amazing album that was about to proceed. Listening to this album reminds me of drinking beer in a seedy venue that’s a little too dark whilst you’re a little to drunk. Life is relaxed and life is good.

They have such a soothing beat and throughout the album I couldn’t stop playing my faux drums (aka slapping my hands on the desk whilst procrastinating) and kicking my feet. It is infectious and intoxicating and I highly recommend it to all that like their rock a little relaxing, with a bit of a garage edge.

The album is a magical dream sequence and 4 discount stickers. Whilst the album is awesome I highly recommend seeing them live too; this is the kind of music begging to be seen in its live, unbridled glory.

Also…going back to the start, I think the opening of It Is Not Meant To Be acted as the musical representation of the cover art. Maybe that is just me? Or I’m over thinking it?
