The final stop on my farewell tour was also one of my most
guilty pleasures.
KFC.
In my opinion, there is no greater joy in life than a hung-over
trip to KFC to ‘do the Dew’ as my friend (and graphic designer) Kim and I
enjoyed doing on our weekends together.
As I will never have to work a weekend again, the odds of
having a hardcore hangover (a mid-week little-too-much-wine-headache will still
happen in an office job, I’m sure) at work are dramatically decreased and the power
of the grease will no longer be required…at work.
To keep as faithful to the lunchbreak as I could, I
overindulged in a combination of wine and beer the night before my planned
journey to KFC, a sure fire way of ending up with a hangover.
Like I had planned (?), I awoke the next morning with a
nastier than normal hangover and an overwhelming urge for KFC.
I was in the right frame of mind for our farewell.
After four hours of absolute torture, I went on my break and
ordered an upsized (I couldn’t have breakfast due to my concern that I couldn’t
keep it down) Ultimate Burger Meal and a Mountain Dew.
My stomach was filled with grease, my heart was filled with
fear for it’s future and I was overcome with pure, unbridled joy.
I think it is KFC, that I will miss the most. Remember me
when you do the Dew Kim.
I’m potentially two kilos heavier now that I have farewelled
my favourite foods, however that doesn’t matter…it was for nostalgia’s sake.
I will miss you endless fast-food options.
